A few weeks ago we were approached by Trinity School in Newbury, Berkshire who were looking for a local design agency to work with their design and technology department during the school’s design and technology week. The aim was for the agency to deliver workshops to year 9 and 10 GCSE students to excite and inform them about the value and importance of design and technology, and teach the skills needed for future designers to flourish.
The head of Design and Technology, Mr Liam Anderson, was impressed with the work on our portfolio and said that Boomerang portrayed a ‘very unique example of high quality design and technology’. We were honoured to be asked to partner with Trinity School as their Designer in Residence.
We delivered our first workshop on Friday 23rd June 2018 which was a great success. The workshop was lead by Anna our Creative Director, and joined by our graphic designer Sarah, they brought a wealth of experience and knowledge which the students found informative and relatable. Rather than the traditional route through university, Sarah chose a vocational route to employment and she completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital media with Boomerang and attended a local college once a week to gain her qualifications.
Anna and Sarah tasked the students with creating their own sub-brand for a new product range of bikes that a Sporting Goods company are launching. The students were excited to be working on a ‘real life’ brief and cracked on with their ideas. Anna and Sarah will be re-visiting the school in September to review their work and advise of any further brand development that the students need to consider.
Anna also officially opened the ‘design and inspiration library’ – a new area in the D&T department full of books, products and inspiration for students to use when designing.
SO, WHAT'S NEXT?
We received some great feedback from Liam Anderson, Head of Design and Technology at Trinity School, who said: “Thank you so much and Sarah too for your time today - the workshop was excellent and the students really enjoyed it. They were really keen and wanted to carry on at the end of the day!”
We look forward to visiting the students again in September and are honoured to be a part of Trinity School’s design and technology curriculum.

Your audience’s first impression of your business is now based almost exclusively on your website – which means it needs to make the perfect impression of your organisation. It should establish your brand, provide information on your products or services, and ultimately prove to be one of your most important sales tools.
