Make your event a social media success!

Events and PR activities have one objective: to raise awareness of your brand/product. With that in mind, it’s important to ensure that people start spreading the word, both via word of mouth and on social media. So, how can you get people talking?

What to do BEFORE the event:

  • Spread awareness! Excite your current followers with details of the event, they might share it with a friend. Count-down the days until your event and create a buzz.
  • Set up photo opportunities, giving your guests everything they need to take ‘share-worthy’, beautiful photographs for Instagram, and give them an incentive to share, such as a competition. Add some themed touches and incorporate your brand colours if you can, so that the photos are recognisably related to you, your brand or your products.
  • Create a unique hashtag and check that it’s not already in use by doing a quick search. People can use this before your event to check for any sneak peaks, during your event to share ‘in the moment’ updates, and after to reflect on the event.

DURING your event:

  • Get snap-happy! Take as many good quality photos as you can and share them on your social media. Encourage others to share too, ensuring they use the chosen hashtag to correctly optimise their posts.
  • Ensure your Social Media Manager is joining in online – answering any questions, ‘liking’ people’s posts and tracking the engagements.

AFTER your event:

  • Thank everyone for their attendance and show some love and appreciation on their social media posts from the event.
  • If you held a competition for ‘best photograph’ announce the winner on your social media channels.
  • Recap the event for anyone who missed it on your blog – and distribute the article on all your social media channels so all areas are covered and no one misses out.
  • Create a report to measure the success of your event by measuring social reach, engagement and any increase in followers.
